Theo Ratliff and Matt Barnes signed with Lakers?
Free-agent forward Matt Barnes(notes) has reached agreement on a two-year, $3.6 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Lakers expect to receive a signed contract on Thursday night. The deal will pay him $1.7 million next season and give him a player option for $1.9 million in 2011-12.

The Cleveland Cavaliers had guaranteed $7 million over two years with a team option for a third season, but Barnes wanted more guaranteed money to sign with a non-championship contender. Cleveland refused to improve its offer and ultimately was willing to let Barnes go to a lower bidder.

The Lakers also signed veteran center Theo Ratliff(notes) on Thursday.

Barnes announced earlier in the week he was signing with the Toronto Raptors, but a sign-and-trade deal that would have paid him $9 million over two years fell apart.

BREAKING NEWS: Matt Barnes signs 2 year deal with Lakers!?

I think both Ratiff and Barnes will take all of the possible minutes away from Caracter and Ebanks which is a bit disappointing.

The Lakers just signed Theo Ratiff and Matt Barnes?
first. i thought kobe and matt barnes arent the greatest of friends

second. on wiki it says ebanks and caracter are sign???
(bottom of page, then click them and it says there number???)

third: is ratliff a good defender and a ok back up??

Lakers just signed Ratliff and Barnes what about ebanks and caracter?
He will sign for 2-yr, $3.6 mil deal!!! Hooray! This move makes the Lakers deeper, tougher, and bolsters their bench. Barnes is another perimeter stopper to go along with Ron and Kobe, and his ability to hit the three will be an added bonus. I am ecstatic about the moves the Lakers have made this off-season. First Blake, then Ratliff, and then Barnes. And I am not even counting the two potential steals in the draft in Ebanks and Caracter. The Lakers are definitely ready to three-peat.

Yeaaah!!! Matt Barnes is now a Laker?

Is Theo Ratliff a good basketball player also Matt Barnes is he also a good player? now signed!

Unless Cleveland ups the ante, Barnes will sign with the Lakers for 1-yr, 1.7 mil. I sure hope this happens. Barnes will upgrade the Lakers bench tremendously. He will bolster an already rugged perimeter defense with Kobe and Ron. He will be a very good sub for Kobe and Ron, and it gives them options to use all three of them at the same time. Of course, I did not care for Barnes when the Lakers played the Magic, but I would like the toughness that he would bring. Plus, his ability to hit the three will be an asset in the triangle. They could still retain Shannon, though signing Barnes possibly makes it less likely. All the Lakers would need again is a backup C/PF to replace Powell and/or Mbenga. i am, Ron Artest played for Sacramento.

Matt Barnes to the Lakers?
Unless the Cleveland Cavaliers raise their current multiyear offer to Matt Barnes on Thursday, the free-agent forward plans to sign a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Cavaliers are offering as much as a three-year deal that starts around $3.5 million a season, but Barnes wants more money if he’s going to sign with a non-championship contender, sources said. Barnes would take a $1.7 million deal to join the Lakers.

Barnes had a two-year, $9 million deal with the Toronto Raptors fall apart when the Orlando Magic didn’t have enough salary-cap room available to do a sign-and-trade.

Barnes averaged 8.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in 81 games last season for the Magic.
